The models of pulverized coal fired boilers and CFB boilers developed by HKD were adopted in 2007 Sinopec Skill Contest.
  • In 2007 Sinopec Group adopted the models developed by HKD in its ¡°Boiler Operator Skill Contest¡± and got the satisfactory contest results. The headquarters of Sinopec, its subsidiaries involved in the contest and the competitors are all satisfied for the reasons as follows: the models are very precise for the modeling results are close to the real process; the evaluation system is very reasonable for it can get properly responses to the operator¡¯s skill; the system is very stable for it ensures the contest continuously and steadily. Thus, after this contest, HKD not only spread to apply its pulverized coal fired boilers model and CFB model, but also obtain more opportunity to win its simulation projects in Sinopec, CNPC and their subsidiaries.

Virtual Reality Exercise System for Safety Area-VESSA was applied in safe
  • Since 2004, HKD has begun to develop Virtual Reality Exercise System for Safety Area based on the work safety emergency plan-VESSA. The system integrates the virtual reality technique and process dynamic simulation technique to provide users with the interactive operation environment and make users feel as if they operate on site. VESSA could be applied in the simulation of the equipment operation, the training of the safety operation, the drilling of the various accident emergency plans and the research of the rationalization of the plans, etc. Since December 2006, the system has been applied in the safe operation training project of Tianjin Dagang Oilfield.

  • OTS system for Yankuang Guohong Chemical Engineering Co., Ltd passed the acceptance
    • At the end of 2006, the OTS system developed by HKD got the acceptance and was handed over to Yankuang Guohong Chemical Engineering Co., Ltd as a training tool. The system can simulate following 3 sets plants processes: Texaco Gasifier, LT methanol washing process and Methanol synthesis reaction process.

Dynamic process simulation system saved money for plant start-up
    • A petrochemical complex under SINOPEC in east China built a styrene unit and an aromatics unit. The processes with many control variables were very complicated, especially for the mixed phase styrene reactor, which was firstly used in the country. In this case how to train the operators to familiarize the processes, master their features and skillfully operate DCS before factory starting-up was very essential. In collaboration with the factory people, HKD developed training simulators for the two units, which were deployed in site a few weeks before the units going into operation. The use of simulators to train the operators made the factory start-up very successful and made a contribution to saving money for the factory.
    • According to the factory's statistic, the use of simulators saved factory's actual expenses for plant start-up training, DCS training and other training about $123,457. However, It is of significance that the use of simulators enable the factory people to gain the knowledge for plant operation and for unpredicted or unscheduled shut down, which could retrieve a loss of $2,407,000. The simulation system was awarded the SINOPEC technology certificate.
Dynamic Simulation System Used for Plant Operation
    • HKD developed a PTA (350MT/y) simulation system and a monitoring system on GPDMS platform for a petrochemical plant under SINOPEC. The dynamic simulation system was used for training recruited and old operators in normal and abnormal/malfunction conditions, and also used for DCS control system design and startup procedure checking. The use of simulation system and the monitoring system significantly gained profit for the plant.
    • The operation experience gained by using simulators avoided a lot of abnormal shutdown. The decrease in one hour of unscheduled shut down could retrieve a loss of $29,400.
    Introduction of Overseas Advanced Technology
    • In 2003, HKD subcontracted the development project of dynamic simulation system for 8 sets plants of SECCO. At present, SECCO project is one of the biggest Sino-foreign investment projects in the field of petrochemical. This project includes 8 plants and other equipped utility systems. Especially, the 0.9 million ton per year ethylene cracker plant is the one of ethylene production plants with the largest capacity per line in the world, and the production scale of the other 7 plants also come up to advanced world standard. This project is developed based on the HONEYWELL SHADOWPLANT platform. Although the project has a tight schedule and high degree of technical difficulty, benefiting from our development experience for many years, HKD completed the simulation project on schedule and delivered to our client by organized our experienced engineers. Now the 0.9 million ton per year ethylene cracker plant, utility and other production plants have been put into production successfully.
    Successfully Cooperated Project
    • In 1998, HKD sold the software license of the WinBase PROS simulation development platform to Yanshan Simulation Training Center of China Petrochemical Corporation (YSC), and developed OTS system for butyl rubber plant cooperating with YSC; furthermore this project won Yanshan Petrochemical Technical Progress Award, the Second Prize. And then YSC successfully developed OTS system for high pressure polyethylene plant based on the HKD¡¯s simulation system development platform, and the system have been put into practice for the training and evaluation of the operators¡¯ ability. Up to the day, YSC have successfully developed many large and medium scale OTS systems for Yanshan Petrochemical Company, such as the simulation system of atmospheric-vacuum distillation plant, ethylene plant, high pressure polyethylene plant, EG plant and jet fuel plant etc. Profiting from these systems, a large numbers of operators and technologists joined the training and accumulated the experience. So the successfully development for these OTS systems played a very important role in the production of the factories.
Dynamic Simulation System Used For DCS System Design Checking And Startup Procedure Study
    • A petrochemical complex under SINOPEC applied the simulation system developed by HKD to its ethylene unit revamp. The simulation system was successfully used for:
¡¤ Control system checking and testing: Engineers of the plant found some problems in compressor system, interlock loop and control loop by using the simulation system, and solved them before startup, so as to reduced risk as the plant went into operation.
¡¤ Checking new operation procedure: The simulation system played important role in verifying the interlock scheme and designing startup procedure.
¡¤ Training operators: The plant used the dynamic simulation system to train 106 operators in the new ethylene process, startup/shutdown procedures, DCS interface, interlock, etc.
